YANGON, Myanmar — A Chinese-made military aircraft with 104 people on board, most of them relatives of Myanmar soldiers, went missing after taking off Wednesday afternoon from an air base in the southern part of the country, military officials said.
The navy and air force were searching for the plane in the area near Myike air base, about 350 miles south of the nation’s commercial capital, Yangon, the office of the commander in chief, Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, said in a statement.
The missing transport plane is a Y-8 from China, the statement on the military’s Facebook page said. The plane has four propellers and is based on a Russian prototype, according to a description in the Chinese state news media.
The military said four navy ships and two aircraft were searching for the plane.
